Directions to Parking and Shuttle:
Shuttle Bus Depot and Parking Lot at Merritt College
12500 Campus Drive, Oakland, CA 94619
Shuttle will run from Merritt to Redwood Park every 10 minutes or so, starting at 10:30 AM. The last bus to the park picking up passengers will be at 4 PM.
Buses will run from Redwood Park to Merritt until 6 or later if not everyone has been loaded up. Parking lot at Merritt will be locked t 7:00 PM
Shuttles will leave frequently from Merritt College, complete with “trans-formers” (transportation performers) to entertain you during the 10-minute ride to the park. Cost is $5 per adult, $2 per child, round trip, and helps cover our cost for the shuttles. Plenty of free parking is available at Merritt College. To reserve tickets in advance, click here (recommended, as capacity will be limited). The festival itself is FREE.
Merritt College is accessible by transit (ACTransit Route 54 buses leave from the Fruitvale BART station every 30 minutes). For transit information, click here and update the top-left area with your desired arrival time and starting location; for driving directions, click the car icon instead of the bus atop the left column.
From 13 south, exit at Redwood Road and turn left, crossing over the freeway, curving around to the right and ascending a hill. The first stoplight halfway up the hill is Campus Drive. Turn right and go ½ mile to the Merritt College campus. Festival parking will be on the right in a reserved lot. The shuttle bus will stop at the main bus turnaround across the street.
From Highway 13 north, take the Redwood Road exit to the stop sign, follow Mountain blvd to the traffic light and take a right onto Redwood Road and head uphill. Follow directions above to turn right at Campus Drive.
Purchase Shuttle Tickets in Advance: BUY IT NOW!
Please reserve your seat early. The more we can measure demand, the more buses we can afford to run the day of the event. While tickets will be available the day of the event, we cannot guarantee that we won’t sell out. Sales are being limited so that we have sufficient capacity to bring everyone back to their cars at the end of the event in a timely manner.
Sorry, no dogs except seeing eye dogs are allowed on bus per bus company's regulations. Drop Off Zone at Park Gate.
Parking restricted along Redwood and Pinehurst Roads.
We recognize that many people would like to drive directly to the festival site, especially those with large, jogging type strollers, bicycles, etc.
There will be a large passenger dropoff zone at the Redwood gate entrance as parking will be sold out for a good portion of the day.
Plan ahead to drop off the dogs, the kids, the wheels, and let the designated driver head up the hill to the shuttle to join you while the rest off you walk in.
This arrangement will also work well at the end of the day, increasing the shuttles capacity if drivers meet people with dogs, strollers, etc with their car at the Redwood Road loading zone, a half mile walk out from the bus loading zone.
From the gate at Redwood road it is a 1/2 mile wlak to the beginning of the festival. Parking along Redwood Road will be restricted from MacDonald Gate to 1 mile past the entrance on Pinehurst Road and Redwood Roads to eliminate the hazard of pedestrians, particularly children walking along a narrow road with blind curves and little or no shoulder.
Directions to Redwood Park (limited parking and passenger drop-off):
Stream Trail of Redwood Regional Park
7867 Redwood Road, Oakland, CA 94619
Driving directions to the Stream Trail, for those planning to get to the park early or drivers dropping off passengers, may be found by clicking here. The Park District charges $5 per vehicle for parking. Once the parking lot is full, only vehicles with disabled placards will be admitted for drop-off and pick-up. Vehicles may drop off passengers at the park entrance (a shaded ½ mile walk to the start of the festival). Some parking will open up at the park throughout the day but space is limited. Note that no parking will be allowed along Redwood Road the day of the festival for safety reasons. Vehicles will be towed if you park on Redwood Road.
From Highway 13 North or South take the Redwood Road exit and head east (uphill). At the top of the hill you will cross Skyline Boulevard. Descend on Redwood Road about two miles and drive slow enough to enjoy the autumn day and to see the Redwood Gate entrance sign on your left, immediately after a curve.
Carpooling: Sign up by clicking here.
Other transportation options:
Hiking to the Festival: Please check out the Redwood Park website and map to choose from numerous trails that lead to the festival site from Skyline Blvd trailheads. From the Skyline Gate it is a ~2 ½ mile, ~600 foot descent along the Stream Trail to the Trails End part of the 1 mile Festival trail. If you park at Big Bear or MacDonald Gate, we strongly urge you to use the shady Golden Spike Trail from Big Bear Staging Area to the Fishway where it joins the park entrance road, a much safer route.
Biking to the Festival: Cyclists familiar with the narrow and hilly sections of Redwood and Pinehurst Road won’t have to concern themselves about parking either. There is also easier, fairly level family friendly riding from the numerous turnouts further south along Redwood Road leading to Castro Valley, past the no parking restrictions that end at least 1.5 miles from the festival beginning. Please keep in mind that while cycling is allowed along the Stream Trail's first portion where the festival is located, we ask that you be courteous and walk your bike when that would be safer.
From other directions:
From Highway 580, exit at 35th Ave and go east, towards the hills. 35th Ave will turn into Redwood Road by the time it crosses over 13.
From Moraga, take Canyon Road to Pinehurst Road.
From Castro Valley, take Redwood Road.
